अवंतिका देवी मंदिर रुक्मिणी हरण-स्थल





अवंतिका देवी का मंदिर उ.प्र. में बुलंदशहर जनपद की अनूपशहर तहसील के अंतर्गत जहांगीराबाद से 15 किमी. दूर पतित पावनी गंगा नदी के तट पर निर्जन स्थान पर स्थित है। यहां न कोई ग्राम  है, न कस्बा है। यहां पर मां अवंतिका देवी के श्रद्धालु भक्तजनों द्वारा यात्रियों के ठहरने हेतु बनवायी गईं धर्मशालाएं, साधु-संतों की कुटिया तथा आश्रम हैं। आधुनिक चकाचौंध से दूर, कोलाहल से रहित, प्रदूषण-मुक्त प्रकृति का सुंदर, सुरम्य वातावरण तथा पतित पावनी गंगा नदी का सान्निध्य होने के कारण यह स्थल साधु-संतों की साधना एवं तपोस्थली बनी हुई है। पश्चिमी उत्तर-प्रदेश, दिल्ली, हरियाणा एवं राजस्थान आदि प्रदेशों से प्रतिवर्ष लाखों श्रद्धालु यहां की यात्रा करते हैं।

अवंतिका देवी के परम पवित्र मंदिर का महत्व एवं प्रसिद्धि बहुत अधिक है। पृथ्वी पर जितनी भी सिद्धपीठ हैं वह सब सतीजी के अंग हैं, लेकिन यह सिद्धपीठ सतीजी का अंग नहीं है। कहा जाता है कि इस सिद्धपीठ पर जगत जननी करुणामयी माता भगवती अवंतिका देवी (अम्बिका देवी) साक्षात् प्रकट हुई थीं। मंदिर में दो संयुक्त मूर्तियां हैं, जिनमें बाईं तरफ मां भगवती जगदम्बा की है और दूसरी दायीं तरफ सतीजी की मूतिर् है। यह दोनों मूर्तियां 'अवंतिका देवी' के नाम से प्रतिष्ठित हैं। मां भगवती अवंतिका देवी को पोशाक वस्त्रादि नहीं चढ़ाया जाता है, अपितु सिन्दूर व देशी घी का चोला (आभूषण) चढ़ाया जाता है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि जो भी भक्त मां भगवती अवंतिका देवी पर सिन्दूर व देशी घी का चोला चढ़ाता है, माता अवंतिका देवी उसकी समस्त मनोकामना पूर्ण करती हैं। कुंआरी युवतियां अच्छे पति की कामना से माता अवंतिका देवी का पूजन करती हैं। कहा जाता है कि रुक्मिणी ने भगवान कृष्ण को पति रूप में प्राप्त करने के लिए इन्हीं अवंतिका देवी का पूजन किया था। यह भी कहा जाता है कि भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने इसी मंदिर से रुक्मिणी की इच्छा पर उनका हरण किया था।

मां भगवती अवंतिका देवी मंदिर के अतिरिक्त यहां अन्य दर्शनीय स्थलों में रुक्मिणी कुण्ड, महानन्द ब्रह्मचारी का विशाल रुक्मिणी बल्लभ धाम आश्रम, यज्ञशाला तथा उनकी साधना स्थली है। इस अवंतिका देवी मंदिर तथा रुक्मिणी कुण्ड से एक पौराणिक कथा भी जुड़ी हुई है। यह कथा द्वापर युग की है तथा रुक्मिणी-कृष्ण विवाह से संबंधित है। किंवदंतियों के अनुसार बुलन्दशहर जनपद की तहसील अनूपशहर के अंतर्गत स्थित वर्तमान कस्बा अहार द्वापर युग में राजा भीष्मक की राजधानी कुण्डिनपुर नगर था। इस कुण्डिनपुर नगर के पूर्व में अवंतिका देवी का मंदिर, पश्चिम के दरवाजे पर शिवजी का मंदिर, उत्तर के दरवाजे पर पतित पावनी गंगाजी बह रही थीं तथा दक्षिण के दरवाजे पर एक बगीचा और हनुमान जी का मंदिर स्थित था। कुण्डिन नरेश महाराज भीष्मक के पांच पुत्र तथा एक सुंदर कन्या थी। सबसे बड़े पुत्र का नाम रुक्मी था और चार छोटे थे जिनके नाम क्रमश: रुक्मरथ, रुक्मबाहु, रुक्मकेश और रुक्मपाली थे। इनकी बहिन थीं सती रुक्मिणी।

राजकुमारी रुक्मिणी बाल्यावस्था से अपनी सहेलियों के साथ कुण्ड (रुक्मिणी कुण्ड) में स्नान करके माता अवंतिका देवी के मंदिर में जाकर माता अवंतिका देवी का नाना प्रकार से पूजन करती थीं। पूजन करने के पश्चात् प्रतिदिन माता भगवती अवंतिका देवी से प्रार्थना करती थीं, 'हे जगतजननी! हे करुणामयी मां भगवती!! मुझे श्रीकृष्ण ही वर के रूप में प्राप्त हों।' राजकुमारी रुक्मिणी जब विवाह योग्य हुईं तो उनके पिता राजा भीष्मक को उनके विवाह की चिंता हुई। राजा भीष्मक को जब यह मालूम हुआ कि रुक्मिणी श्रीकृष्ण को पति के रूप में चाहती हैं तो वह इस विवाह के लिए सहर्ष तैयार हो गये। जब इस विवाह के बारे में राजा भीष्मक के सबसे बड़े पुत्र रुक्मी को मालूम हुआ तो उसने श्रीकृष्ण-रुक्मिणी विवाह का विरोध किया। राजकुमार रुक्मी ने सती रुक्मिणी का विवाह चेदि नरेश राजा दमघोष के पुत्र शिशुपाल से उनके हाथ में मौहर बांधकर तय कर दिया। शिशुपाल ने अपनी सेना को विवाह से तीन दिन पहले ही कुण्डिनपुर के चारों ओर तैनात कर दिया और हुक्म दिया कि श्रीकृष्ण को देखते ही बंदी बना लिया जाए। राजकुमारी को जब यह मालूम हुआ कि उनका बड़ा भाई रुक्मी उनका विवाह शिशुपाल के साथ करना चाहता है तो वह बहुत दु:खी हुई।

राजकुमारी रुक्मिणी ने एक ब्राह्मण के माध्यम से भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के पास द्वारिका संदेश भेजा कि उसने मन ही मन श्रीकृष्ण को पति के रूप में वरण कर लिया है, परंतु उसका बड़ा भाई रुक्मी उसका विवाह उसकी इच्छा के विरुद्ध, जबरन चेदि के राजा के पुत्र शिशुपाल के साथ करना चाहता है। इसलिए वह वहां आकर उसकी रक्षा करे। रुक्मिणी की रक्षा की गुहार पर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अहार पहुंचे तथा रुक्मिणी की इच्छानुसार इसी माता अवंतिका देवी मंदिर से रुक्मिणी का हरण उस समय किया जब वह मंदिर में पूजन करने गयी थीं।

जब श्रीकृष्ण रुक्मिणी को रथ में बैठाकर द्वारिका के लिए चले तो उनको राजा शिशुपाल, जरासिन्ध तथा राजकुमार रुक्मी की सेनाओं ने चारों ओर से घेर लिया। उसी समय उनकी मदद के लिए उनके बड़े भाई बलराम भी अपनी सेना लेकर आ गये। घोर-युद्ध हुआ। युद्ध में राजा शिशुपाल आदि की सेनाएं हार गयीं। उसी समय से कुण्डिनपुर का नाम अहार पड़ गया।

अवंतिका देवी मंदिर के पीछे उ.प्र. सरकार के पर्यटन विभाग ने एक धर्मशाला का निर्माण कराया है तथा अनेक धार्मिक भक्तों ने यात्रियों के लिये स्थान बनाये हैं। अब यहां पर स्वामी महानन्द ब्रह्मचारी जी की कृपा से एक संस्कृत पाठशाला, मन्दिर और गऊशाला भी बनी है।

मचैल यात्रा, माँ चंडी देवी



Bhadarwah and Kishtwar in Jammu province are dotted with a number of famous pilgrimage sites. These sites attract thousands of people every year from all over the country.

यात्रा इस चिनोट मंदिर से शुरू होती हैं.
 
One such place which is thronged by devotees in large numbers is the shrine of Chandi Mata or Machail Wali Mata. “Chandi Mata” the goddess of benevolence showers blessing to all irrespective of caste, creed and colour. According to a legend, the Goddess Chandi appeared at Machail long years ago in the shape of Shila (Pindi). The mother came here from her ancient place Mindhal Battas (HP) to bless the simple, ignorant and helpless people of Paddar area. The Machail Yatra is a unique pilgrimage with unique features. Besides spiritual, its social aspect is more effective and impressive where the Goddess asks her devotees to shun social evils for the welfare of society and mankind as a whole.

The Chandi Dham Machail has the distinction of the simultaneous appearance of Shiv and Shakti. On the one hand, the Goddess Chandi (Shakti) is blessing her devotees at Machail village while on the other hand God Mahadev Shiva appears on the opposite high mountain in the shape of lingam to provide darshans to the pilgrims on the pious occasion of the Shakti yatra. The mountain is called Shiv Pahad which often remains covered with black clouds. It is a unique union of Shiva and Shakti found at Machail.

The holy shrine of the Goddess Chandi is situated at a height of over 8,000 feet above the sea level in Machail village surrounded by high mountains, thick devdar forests and attractive meadows and world famous sapphire mines. The most attractive and historical lion astride idols of the Goddess Chandi and Lakshmi Ji made of pure silver are the rare sight and source of inspiration for the pilgrims who come to seek blessing of Mataji. The most important and impressive aspect of the Machail Yatra is the unique holy mace of the Goddess which leads the then pilgrims and provides strength and inspiration enroute.
 

The miraculous Machail Yatra to the hilly area of Paddar in district Kishtwar, is really a boon for the people who seek blessing of “Mata Chandi”. The pilgrimage has revolutionized the action and thoughts of the general public having faith upon the divine mother. The popular Machail Yatra has its historical, religious importance. To pay obeisance, everyyear devotees participate in annual Machail Yatra which starts from Jammu.

 

In Jammu, she has her origin in Mahalaxmi Mandir at Pacca Danga and thence at Bhaderwah where from her “Chhari or Holy Mace” starts in the month of August every year. The yatra starts with religious procession ” which is taken out from Mahalaxmi Mandir and passes through Jain Bazaar, Link Road, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Raghunath Bazaar and Indira Chowk in the City of Temples and then joins the main yatra at Chinote.

 

Situated around 306 kms away from Jammu, the Yatra passes through Jammu, Udhampur, Batote, Kishtwar, Atholi and Gulabgarh road and thence on foot to Machail Mata which is about 30 kms. Though the terrain is too tough to trek but with the grace of Mata Chandi, one feels hillbilly joyous in association with enchanting pilgrims echoing “Jai Mata Di, Jai Chandi Maa, Machail Wali Mata Ki Jai, etc.”
 
The main stop over or reception stations over en-route are Bhala, Puddoda, Premnagar, Thathri, Kistwar, Paddar, Massu, Chishoti, Atholi Gulabgarh, Layondee, S Kunderpul, Chishoti, Hamooree and thence Machail Mata’s sacred temple. Through out the route religious congregation and Bhandaras are organized to high ligh the importance of the yatra.



"Earlier, the yatra used to reach its destination Chandi Dham Machail, on the eve of a local festival called 'Naghui' when doors of the historical Chandi temple were thrown open for Darshan of the Goddess after remaining closed throughout the year as per ancient tradition and faith. On the occasion, the local populace including Buddhist Clad in multi colour traditional dresses greet the holymace and the pilgrims with enthusiasm. The devotional songs and holy couplets sung and chanted in local Padhri language surcharge the holy dances throughout the day. Besides Sankirtan, Karsewa, havna are also performed by the devotees for peace and satisfaction of the ultra modern society which is full of tension today.

The temple is open round the year. But Chhadi Yatra is organised in the month of August every year. Thousands of people visit the shrine during this period.
Helicopter service to Machel is available from Jammu and the base camp Gulabgarh during this period.
The best time for pilgrimage is during the Chhadi yatra.
It is advised not to trek in the month of December, January and February due to heavy snowfall.
During Chadi Yatra, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir provides tents, medicines and other basic amenties. Many Langers are also arranged roadside to provide free food for the pilgrims.
Upon reaching the shrine, the pilgrims pray the Maa Durga and have an extraordinary spiritual experience.
Many stories of supernatural happennings are heard from the pilgrims. Maataji blesses the people who come to the shrine with pure heart and devotion.
The Machail Yatra has strengthened the spirit of religious tolerance, bonds of secularism and mutual brotherhood among the masses which is apparent from the fact that even our Muslim brothers greet the Yatra with due respect where-ever it passes, through their habitations.

Directions from Jammu:

Located at 33.42N, 76.34E, this place is towards North-East of the Jammu city. The base camp Gulabgarh can be reached by road from Jammu. Gulabgarh is about 290 KMs from Jammu. From Gulabgrah one has to trek for 32 KMs to reach the Maa Chandi Shrine in Machel. The journey is a nice experience.
